The Seychelles enjoy favourable conditions for renewable energy (RE) resources, such as wind and solar.
So far, the “baseline scenario” for energy in Seychelles is of slow, incremental addition of RE production, that will likely meet the modest 5% RE by 2020 but will struggle to meet the 15% by 2030 target without substantial changes to overcome technical, institutional, regulatory and financial barriers.
It targets an ambitious transformation and diversification of the Seychelles’ currently 85 MW diesel-dominated electricity generation capacity (on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue), aiming at replacing diesel generators with domestic and international public and private financing.
